Moldova May to Rise Passenger Transportation Fees
OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2011. The Transport and Road Workers Union of Moldova says the situation in the sector has worsened and states the necessity of rising passenger transportation fees. “The social-economic state of enterprise, working in the passenger traffic sector hasn’t improved and even worsened despite the measures taken since the beginning of 2011.
The passenger carriers’ attempts to bring their activity in line with the requirements of the legislation in force have resulted in the fact that the market participants had 75 mln lei arrears formed in 2010, making up about 18% of the received profit”, reads the Union’s declaration, emphasizing that in the first half of 2011, the branch’s losses will be even higher given the rise in price for fuel, spare parts and other services.
In this connection, the Transport and Road Workers Union suggests carrying out independent calculations for passenger traffic pricing, lifting the fees and carrying out the information campaign to explain passengers possible consequences of keeping the current fees.
The Union also called on all market participants to discuss the situation in the field and present their written suggestions by August 22. Basing on the collected and systematized information, the Transport and Road Workers Union will present its suggestions to improve the situation to the government.
