OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2011. Orlen Lietuva launches a social campaign Saugaus kelio pradzia (The Beginning of the Safe Road). Each week until the end of October, commentaries dedicated for enhancing the driving culture in Lithuania will be shown on Lithuanian Television channel program Labas rytas (Good Morning), reported the press-centre of ORLEN Lietuva.

Based on the data provided by the European Statistics Service Eurostat, Lithuanians with personal vehicles cover more than one tenth of total distance travelled and take one of the leading positions in EU according to this indicator. However, according to the number of accidents, Lithuania left the lowest positions only during the latter years, and traffic remains one of the biggest priorities of national safety.

"Traffic education programs, have been one of the key priorities of ORLEN social activities for a number of years. Being an important part of transport system we aspire our contribution into enhancing drivers' consciousness to help preventing traffic accidents", - said Ireneusz Fafara, ORLEN Lietuva General Director.

Each  week, 5-minute thematic commentaries will be shown in Lithuanian Television channel program Labas rytas (Good Morning), where advices to drivers will be given on how to avoid getting tired during a trip, how to drive in a more economical manner, how to break, what tires to use and what chairs to use for safe travelling of kids. Audrius Gelzinis, a project expert and multiple champion of Lithuanian circular race and cross-country car racing, will share the secrets of driving mastership in each commentary. All the commentaries shown on Lithuanian Television channel later will be compiled and issued in a separate compact disc; also they will be available on the internet at any time.

"Safe car trip is determined not just by the observance of safety rules or technical parameters, but also by the inner culture of drivers", says Renaldas Gabartas, the author of TV commentaries pertinent to ORLEN Lietuva project The Beginning of the Safe Road and long-standing automotive journalist.

Currently in Poland PKN ORLEN is conducting a campaign to promote the safety of motorcyclists, mutual respect for all road users, especially motorcyclists and car drivers.

ORLEN Lietuva campaign The Beginning of the Safe Road commentaries are prepared by a Public Institution Saugus Ratas, which has been organizing driving proficiency competitions and economical driving competitions since 1996.
