OREANDA-NEWS. August 02, 2011. Work is continuing on Trans-Baikal Railways to reconstruct and electrify the line between Karymskaya – Zabaikalsk, reported the press-centre of RZD.

The electrification of the Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk section is being carried out in three stages.

Stage 1 - the electrification of the line between Karymskaya - Olovyannaya, a distance of 148.4 km - has already been completed in 2011.

Stage 2, the electrification of the line between Olovyannaya - Borzya, is scheduled for completion by December 2012, while Stage 3, electrification between Borzya – Zabaikalsk, will be carried out during 2012-2014. In 2011, Russian Railways will be investing a total of 5.6 billion roubles in the comprehensive reconstruction of the section between Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk, with 2.82 billion roubles being spent on the electrification of the stretch between Olovyannaya - Borzya.

The reconstruction of the line between Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk during 2006-2007 was carried out within the framework of the investment project "Transporting Oil to China."

Since 2007, under the investment programme, work is being carried out on the comprehensive reconstruction of line between Karymskaya – Zabaikalsk, with the electrification of the section between Karymskaya – Borzya, a distance of 247.7 kilometres.
