ENEL OGK-5 LAUNCHES NEW GENERATION CAPACITY AT SREDNEURALSKAYA GRES IN THE URALS · With the launch of the second new 410 MW CCGT Enel becomes the first power generating company to completely fulfill its investment obligations in Russia in terms of construction of new generation capacity. · The project required an overall investment of approximately 380 million euros. Moscow, July 25th, 2011 – Today, Enel OGK-5 successfully launched the new combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) unit with installed capacity of 410 MW at Sredneuralskaya GRES near Yekaterinburg in the Urals Region. This is the second new power generating facility launched by Enel in Russia as part of Enel’s plan to increase the installed capacity as well as improving operational and environmental performances of the generation fleet. The new unit was inaugurated in teleconference, by Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin, Deputy Russian Energy Minister Andrei Shishkin and Head of International Division of Enel Carlo Tamburi. By purchasing a stake in OGK-5 from the Russian state-owned energy company RAO UES, Enel committed to an investment program, that included construction of two new units in the Russian regions with a growing power demand, namely the Caucasus and the Urals. On July 15th, 2011, Enel inaugurated a 410 MW CCGT at Nevinnomysskaya GRES in Stavropolsky kray. With the commissioning of a second new power unit, the CCGT at Sredneuralskaya GRES, Enel becomes the first generating company to fulfill its commitments in Russia in terms of building new capacity. Commenting on the launch, Carlo Tamburi, Head of International Division of Enel, stated: "We are proud to say that Enel pioneered the energy reform in Russia as we were the first Group to invest into a generation company spinning off from RAO UES. We have successfully completed the construction of both CCGTs, thus fulfilling our commitment as a strategic investor and contributing to the development of the Russian energy sector, alongside increasing installed capacity and operational performance of the Group’s generation fleet in Russia". The construction of a highly efficient 410 MW CCGT at Sredneuralskaya GRES started in September 2008 and has been executed by a consortium of major Russian and international companies. Total investments into the construction of CCGT-410 at Sredneuralskaya GRES amounted to about 15 billion rubles (equivalent to nearly 380 million euros). The new 410 MW CCGT is being launched in the Urals, one of the most important industrial regions of Russia. Following the launch of the new unit the installed capacity of the power plant will increase by 410 MW to 1591.5 MW, thermal power capacity will increase by 200 Gcal/hour to 1527 Gcal/hour. The efficiency rate of the new CCGT is about 58%, compared to 35-40% of conventional gas-fired power units. The new unit is based on fourth-generation technologies and equipment, which allow to meet the ever-growing power and heat demand of the region while at the same time reducing negative impact on the environment.
