OREANDA-NEWS. July 27, 2011. Head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (RF CCI) Sergei Katyrin has met with Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Suryo B. Sulisto at the RF CCI.

RF CCI Vice-President Vladimir Strashko and representatives of the RF CCI Department for Foreign Economic Cooperation and the Russian-Indonesian Business Council attended the meeting on the part of Russia. Indonesian Ambassador to Moscow Hamid Awaludin and representatives of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the embassy attended the meeting on the part of Indonesia.

RF CCI President Sergei Katyrin welcomed the visitors. He said in his address that Russian-Indonesian economic relations had a vast potential, which must be used more actively. That requires the constant exchange of information – a necessary basis for economic cooperation.

It is also necessary to develop direct relations between businessmen from Russian and Indonesian regions, Sergei Katyrin stressed. More than 170 territorial chambers of commerce in Russia are capable of giving assistance to the establishment of the Russian-Indonesian business dialog.

Exhibitions and fairs are also very important. Russia plays host to many exhibitions and fairs, and territorial chambers are ready to help establish contacts and to provide other aid.

Business councils for cooperation with foreign countries were formed under the RF CCI aegis and are now operating. The Russian-Indonesian Business Council actively assists the development of mutually beneficial relations between Russia and Indonesia, Katyrin said.

Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Suryo B. Sulisto said they were interested in further development of relations with Russia. He agreed with the opinion of the RF CCI head that Russia-Indonesia trade fell short the potential of both countries. Suryo B. Sulisto said that exhibitions and fairs were an important mechanism for upgrading economic relations. He confirmed the Indonesian interest in such events held on the Russian territory. He also cited some statistics concerning the economic development of Indonesia: the national GDP is almost USD 1 trillion, this year’s economic growth may reach 6.5%, and Indonesia aspires to become of the world’s top ten economies by 2025.

The sides also discussed a broad range of issues of mutual interest.
