Moldova Outstripped Romania & Ukraine on GDP Growth
OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2011. These are the results of the comparative analysis of the main social and economic indicators development in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania in the first quarter of 2010 and 2011 carried out by the Ministry of Economy of Moldova. Particularly, Moldova’s GDP in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 8.4 percent in comparison with the same period last year, while Romania’s GDP in the same period increased by 1.7 percent and Ukraine’s GDP – by 5.3%.
Investments into the fixed capital in Moldova in January-March 2011 grew 32 percent in comparison with the same period of 2010, while in Romania this indicator reduced by 2.9 percent and in Ukraine – increased by 12%. Industrial output in Moldova for four months of this year increased by 9.2%, in Romania – by 8.9 percent, in Ukraine – by 8.5%. Agricultural production growth in Moldova in the first quarter this year was 8.4%, while in Ukraine this indicator amounted to 5.3%. There are no data for Romania.
The index of prices for industrial production in Moldova increased in June by 5.4% compared to December 2010. In Ukraine, this indicator has increased by 15.6 percent since the beginning of this year, while in Romania prices for industrial production in May this year increased by 8% in May this year in comparison with May 2010. Cargo transportations in Moldova in five months of this year grew 30.8 percent, in Ukraine – 11%.
There are no data for Romania. Moldova considerably increased exports in the first 5 months of 2011 in comparison with the same period last year – by 63.1%. At the same time, Romanian exports grew 32 percent, Ukrainian – 43.9 percent. The average salary in Moldova’s economy in April increased by 6.8 percent in comparison with April 2010.
In the first four months of the year, the average salary in Romania increased by 10.8%, in Ukraine in April this indicator reduced by 3.7 percent in comparison with April 2010. The unemployment level in Moldova in the first quarter of 2011 was 9.4 percent, in Romania – 7.6 percent, in Ukraine – 9.5 percent.
