OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2011. The operation of the parliamentary commission probing into the falsification of the law on gambling has triggered disputes between the faction of the junior coalition Liberal Party (PL) and the senior coalition Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM).

The disagreements appeared as the PL requested that the commission present its final report in a week, whereas the PLDM demanded that its term of operation, which expired on 15 July, should be extended till 1 October 2011.

Liberal Democrat MP Tudor Deliu reasoned his party's proposal by the fact that "quickness is a trap in the decision-taking process". In retort, PL lawmaker Valeriu Munteanu accused the PLDM of seeking to delay the investigation.

At the end of the day, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu forwarded the compromise proposal that this commission should cease its operation once it unveils its report in the parliament, but not later than 1 October. The suggestion was accepted by the PLDM and Democrat MPs.

The election of the investigation commission's leadership stirred up another wave of hot retorts between the PLDM and PL, after which Democrat MP Raisa Apolschi was elected head of this commission and Valeriu Munteanu of the PL was elected its secretary. Munteanu has held this post so far as well.

On 15 April 2011, the lawmakers decided to create an investigation commission to elucidate the circumstances and those guilty of an error in the law on gambling, which inflicted losses of 6 million lei to the state budget. The former head of the investigation commission, Communist MP Zinaida Chistruga gave up her post, and the commission's mandate has been extended twice already.
