OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2011. Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, during a meeting with Timothy Geithner, Secretary of the Treasury of the United States of America, discussed the Latvia`s economic stabilisation programme and informed that the international loan programme would end this year. Timothy Geithner said: „Latvia’s approach to overcoming the crisis is a successful strategy for a comeback to the international financial markets and for regaining their confidence.” The sides also discussed the financial and economic situation in Europe. T. Geithner informed about the latest developments in the U.S. economy and about the budget drafting process for 2012.

During this visit Prime Minister Dombrovskis, together with the delegation of Latvia`s entrepreneurs, met the leaders of Raytheon International. Representatives of the Latvia`s Investment and Development Agency presented proposals of three companies which could engage in closer cooperation – SAF Tehnika, Hansa Metrics and Regula.

During a meeting with the leaders of Maersk Line Limited the representatives of this company acknowledged good experience in organising U.S. transit freights to Afghanistan via Latvia and admitted that the Northern Distribution Network is a successful project which could be developed.

When meeting the leaders of the company John Deere, the sides discussed opportunities for closer cooperation in the area of transit and logistics. The company informed that the Baltic region is an important access point to Russia's market.
