IGN reflects the unfavorable position of women in three dimensions - the empowerment, economic activity and reproductive health.
It should be noted that the value of GII may range from 0 (gender inequality in all dimensions is absent) to 1 (full gender inequality in all dimensions). The index shows the degree of damage to human development due to inequality of achievements of women and men from these measurements.
The maximum value of IGS accounted for 2009 (0.468), due to high maternal mortality rate - 36.8. In 2010, maternal mortality and adolescent fertility rates declined significantly (22.7 and 28.2, respectively), and the value of GII in the country amounted to 0.428.
In general, the variations in the IGS in the country affect rates of maternal mortality and adolescent fertility.
