OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2011. Summer is a time when a great deal of agreements are concluded on the electricity market. Estonian companies are also choosing their electricity traders. In June and July, one-third of Latvenergo customers in Estonia have decided to extend their contractual relations concerning electricity supply, showing that the company can provide each corporate customer with a competitive offer according to their business profile.
The amount of electricity to be delivered to these companies will be nearly 100 million kWh, equal to the amount necessary to supply public transportation in Riga – including trams and trolleybuses – for more than a year. These Estonian customers are companies in various business sectors, and most of them have already been customers of Latvenergo since the electricity market opened in Estonia in 2010.
At present there are more than 50 Estonian enterprises chosen Latvenergo AS to be their provider of electricity, amounting 5-6 % of total electricity consumption in Estonia. These enterprises constitute one fourth of all the Estonian enterprises, which has rights to freely choose their electricity provider after the opening of the market since 1 April 2010.
The most recognisable companies are food industry companies MAAG Lihatoostus AS, MAAG Piimatoostus AS, Balbiino AS and Kalev Chocolate Factory AS, because our country’s shops also stock their products. The range of products of these companies include meat, butter, cheese and other dairy products of the Farmi line, various types of ice cream under the Balbiino brand, and the popular chocolate and pralines manufactured by Kalev.
In industrial production, the electricity supplied by Latvenergo will be used by two companies recognisable in Latvia: the Norma Joint-Stock Company and JELD-WEN Eesti. Norma is known for its manufacture of safety belts, whereas JELD-WEN is a well-known manufacturer of exterior and interior doors. Draka Cables Keila AS, producer of high-quality low-voltage and special purpose cables, power cables and telecommunication cable, also a long-term partner of Latvenergo in Latvia – this company will also be receiving electricity from Latvenergo from now on.
Latvenergo AS is the largest electricity producer and trader in Latvia, not only supplying electricity to regulated market customers – households and associated users – but also successfully cooperating with those market customers, who purchase electricity at an agreed price. Overall, the Latvian power company has acquired 30% of the Baltic market, also actively expanding electricity trade abroad, with the total customer base being over one million.
