OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2011. On the International Day of Children’s Protection Kyivstar draws the parents’ attention to the necessity of teaching the rules of safe use of the Internet to the children in order to protect them from potential on-line risks.

The telecom operator recommends the parents on the eve of summer vacations to undertake a number of simple steps that will help them teach a child how to use the Internet properly and insure from potentially unsafe situations when getting connected to the Internet from a mobile phone:

1. Get acquainted with the theme aid for parents "Children in the Internet: how to teach children safety in the virtual world", developed by Kyivstar together with the experts of the Psychology Institute named after G.S. Kostiuk of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. The aid contains the main rules and recommendations on providing on-line security to the child, helps find a psychologically correct attitude towards him while applying these rules on a daily basis, without imposing limitations upon the child’s freedom on the Web..

2. Talk with the child and explain him the main rules of behavior in the Internet: tell about inadmissibility of placing personal information on the Web, of personal meetings with a virtual acquaintance without the parents’ knowledge and about the necessity of seeking the parents’ advice and help when abnormal situations occur.

3. Install a free "Parents" control" service in the child’s phone.

The "Parents" control" service is accessible to all the clients of prepaid Kyivstar communications and is designated for protecting the children from on-line threats when connecting to the Internet from a mobile phone. The service operates on the basis of the "white list" of the safe websites for children, which are recommended by the Kyivstar clients and approved by the experts of thePsychology Institute named after G.S. Kostiuk of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. In order to get connected to the service one must dial on the child’s mobile phone an USSD-enquiry *100*5*1 *ХХХХ #, where ХХХХ is the parents’ password and press the call key. For the check of activation it is necessary to dial the *100*5*3# enquiry. The "Parents" control" from Kyivstar has been installed by more than 1000 families all over Ukraine.

"Our children do not leave their mobile phones and very often they get connected to the Internet. My husband and I decided to install the „Parents“ control" about a month ago. For the summer we are planning to send the kids to the summer camp and due to the "Parents" control" from Kyivstar we can be completely sure that our children are protected from the Internet threats".

The "Parents" control" has been appreciated also by the famous Ukrainian parents, to whom Kyivstar proposed a test of the service as early as at the implementation stage.
