Average Wheat Productivity in Moldova Is about 3,1 Tones Per Hectare
OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2011. It was said by the Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasilii Bumacov at the press conference. He said the highest productivity has so far been registered in the Briceni and Riscani regions, where about 4 tones of wheat per a hectare are gathered, and in the Cantemir and Straseni regions – 3.5 tones.
The gluten content in grain amounts to 20-22-24%, being a good indicator. The Agriculture Minister said about 800 thousand tones of wheat are expected to be harvested this year, with 60% of them being food wheat with a high gluten content and 40% - fodder grain. Last year, 748,000 tones of wheat were gathered, with only 240,000 tomes – food wheat with high gluten content.
The Minister said that despite the fact that 50,000 hectares less winter crops had been sown this year than last year, the wheat harvest will be better than last season both in terms of quality and quantity of grain. Vasilii Bumacov said the first group grain crops in Moldova had already been gathered from 160,000 out of 450,000 hectares, 60,000 hectares more than in the same period last year. Winter wheat harvesting is planned to be finished by Wednesday-Thursday.
