TENEX Delivers Low-Enriched Uranium to US Utilities
OREANDA-NEWS. July 18, 2011. After a long break in Russian commercial uranium imports to the USA, caused by the Agreement Suspending the Antidumping Investigation on Uranium from the Russian Federation signed in 1992, on the 15th of July, 2011 TENEX completed a first delivery of enriched uranium product (EUP) to Exelon Generation Company LLC the largest US nuclear generator. The delivery was performed in accordance with the direct long-term contract signed between TENEX and Exelon in June 2009 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
This delivery has begun the implementation of the arrangements agreed upon by the State Atomic Energy Enterprise “Rosatom” and the US Department of Commerce in the 2008 Amendment to the above mentioned Agreement, which enabled the delivering of Russian uranium production to the United States of America on a commercial basis.
TENEX, the subsidiary of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”, is one of the leading global suppliers of nuclear fuel cycle products and services with sound experience in EUP deliveries to end-users all over the world.
Exelon through its subsidiary Exelon Generation owns and operates about 33 GW of generating power – one of the largest electric power suppliers in the USA. Exelon’s generation portfolio includes fossil, hydro, nuclear and renewable power plants. Exelon’s Nuclear division operates a fleet of nuclear power plants which is the largest in the US and third largest in the world: 17 reactors at 10 NPPs. Exelon provides about 20% of US nuclear electricity generation and about 3% of US electric power production.
