OREANDA-NEWS. July 14, 2011. Ukraine has got a principled decision of the Nuclear Safety Account and the Chornobyl Shelter Fund donors on the provision of funds necessary for the implementation of Chornobyl projects, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Grushchenko said today at a meeting with President Viktor Yanukovych in Crimea, reporting on the results of the Assembly of Chornobyl Funds Donors held at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development headquarters in London.

"Political decisions were made allowing us to say with certainty that the issue of raising funds for building the Shelter is resolved,” Kostyantyn Gryshchenko said.

According to him, after such a fundamental decision the Chornobyl funds’ budgets will become deficit-free, allowing starting a full-scale implementation of the Chornobyl project and completing this work by 2015.

"It is very important for us that already now, this year, we can start building the Shelter, which will protect Kyiv, Ukraine, the world from possible risks associated with the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster," the Minister said.

However, he added, there is a certain number of issues requiring technical completion.

According to Kostyantyn Gryshchenko, the decisions made in London were the result of work of the MFA of Ukraine in several countries on behalf of the President.
