Yantar Shipyard Lays Down 2nd Frigate for Russian Navy
OREANDA-NEWS. July 11, 2011. Baltic Shipyard "Yantar" (Yantar Shipyard, part of United Shipbuilding Corporation) held keel-laying and naming ceremony on Friday, July 8th of second frigate of Project 11356 ordered for the Russian Navy, the firm said Friday. The ship was named "Admiral Essen."
Baltic Shipyard Yantar was awarded three newbuilds contract from the Russian Defense Ministry in 2010. The frigates of Project 11356 were designed by Northern Design Bureau.
The lead ship of the series, Admiral Grigorovich, was laid down on Dec. 18, 2010. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014.
Kaliningrad-based Yantar Shipyard was founded in July 8,1945 on the basis of Koenigsberg branch of German’s Schichau Werft. The company specializes in construction and ship repair of warships and civil vessels. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 154 warships and more than 500 merchant vessels. Currently, the major stakeholder of Baltiysky Shipyard Yantar is Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.
