EU Will Provide EUR550 mn Assistance to Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. July 07, 2011. The EU will provide 550 million euro assistance to Moldova in 2011-2013, Herman Van Rompuy. The European Union President Herman Van Rompuy said it at the joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat in Chisinau.
He said the aid would be allocated to Moldova by the European Union according to the “more reforms – more aid” principle. He said Moldova would receive 50 million euros more from the EU for implementation of the justice system and legal institutions reform in the country owing to its leadership in the framework of the Eastern Partnership Program. According to Herman Van Rompuy, the EU reports a positive dynamics of relations with Moldova, stressing that the talks over the Agreement on Association, visa order liberalization are being held successfully.
The mandate has been received and the negotiations will soon begin over agreements on establishment of the deepened and comprehensive free trade order zone between Moldova and the EU and over the country’s joining the Single European Sky. Herman Van Rompuy highly appreciated the government’s efforts in implementation of reforms – difficult ones, but extremely necessary for prosperity of the country and its citizens and for keeping stability. He also emphasized that Brussels hopes for resumption of official negotiations in Moscow over the Transnistrian settlement in the 5+2 format in September this year, emphasizing that this is the only format in the framework of which vital decisions of the Transnistrian conflict may be taken.
Herman Van Rompuy stressed the EU believes in success of Moldova’s reforms and its European future, believing that the country may become the model for others.
