Moldovan Debt to Bilateral Creditors Down 2%
OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2011. The biggest bilateral creditors of our country are Russia and the USA, according to the National Bank of Moldova. Particularly, Moldova’s debt to Russia on the loans received earlier at the government’s guarantees, by the end of the first quarter of 2011 totaled USD 102.99 million, down USD 6.1 million (5.6%) from the beginning of the year.
Russia accounts for 41.9% of the total amount of Moldova’s debt to bilateral creditors by the end of the first quarter of 2011. Moldova’s debt to the USA as of the end-March totaled USD 51.24 million, staying unchanged since the end of the last year.
The USA account for 20.8% of the total amount of Moldova’s debt to bilateral creditors. Moldova’s debt to Russia consists of the loans provided to the country’s government during 1992-1993 to pay for energy resources.
A part of the debts in the amount of USD 43.4 million was restructured according to the agreements, achieved by Moldova with Russia within the Paris Creditors Club in May 2006.
