OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2011. At the Lear Corporation management’s request, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and of the Moldovan Investment and Export Promotion Organization (MIEPO) provided the American company with the whole necessary information, including about possibilities of doing business in free economic zones and industrial parks of Moldova, according to the Ministry of Economy’s press service.

Lear Corporation is a leading supplier of automotive seating and one of the leading global producers of other objects of automobile interior. The company’s annual turnover exceeds USD13 billion. With support of the Ministry of Economy and MIEPO, it opened the car covers sewing factory in 2010 in Moldova – in the free economic zone “Ungheni-business”.

Opening of the second factory in Moldova is supposed to create about 2,000 new workplaces in the country. The Ministry of Economy of Moldova says Lear Corporation representatives are currently examining the information provided by the Moldovan authorities and plan to visit the potential places of the factory’s location. Lear Corporation became the Ungheni-business free economic zone’s resident on January 12, 2010.

Its Moldovan factory, to order of factories in Poland and Hungary, produces covers made of textile, vinyl and leather for seating of BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Toyota and Citroen cars. In the first quarter of 2011, the Moldovan factory of the Lear Corporation produced over 547.8 thousand covers in the total amount of about 99 million leis. It was reported earlier that the Lear Corporation plans to increase the volume of investments in development of its business in the Ungheni-business free economic zone to USD 4.2 million for 3 years.
