OREANDA-NEWS. June 29, 2011. The idea of creation of Regional Innovation Zone (RIZ) in Azerbaijan has been transformed into the idea of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on Information & Communications Technology and Electronics.

In accord with Action Plan 2011-15 on the State Program of Poverty Reduction & Sustainable Development for 2008-15, the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology was commissioned to expand use of services of mobile communication network CDMA and the penetration level of technologies and services IPTV, ADSL, Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G, satellite communication systems, and digitize the network of wired communications with use of the latest technologies.

The Ministry is also entrusted with the mission to prepare jointly with the Tariff Council the tariff proposals promoting to the development of communication services and data transfer.

Under the Action Plan for period until 2015, it is planned to provide package satellite broadcasting of national TV and radio programs, complete introduction of universal telecommunication and postal services, and continue scientific and research work on the application of innovations in the ICT sector.

In 2011-14 the Ministry is to take measures aimed at creating SEZ on ICT and electronics.
