OREANDA-NEWS. June 29, 2011. “Electric Engineering of Chuvashia – yesterday, today and tomorrow”. This is the name of the round table discussion with participation of about 70 representatives of electric engineering enterprises, big power consumers, power grid and generating companies and Chuvash State University held on the main site of the 4th Cheboksary Economic Forum. One of the guests, Pavel Khlyupin, Leader of EnergoMarathon (ecological energy-saving initiative) named “Energy Efficient Russia - 2011”, made an opening speech. He told the participants about the key objectives and tasks of this car race (the first-ever in the history of power engineering) which is intended to attract the attention to the current state of electric power sector, its modernization, innovative development and related challenges.

Round-table discussions included such issues as interaction between the Chuvash enterprises, organization of logistic activities and production cooperation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, ensuring energy efficiency, etc. Vladimir Shornikov, Head of Power Grid Control Center of Chuvashenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC, Deputy Chief Engineer for Technical Operations, was one of the speakers. He delivered a report on the activities of Chuvashenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC, and highlighted a number of challenging tasks. In particular, he pointed out that further development of electric power supply industry is impossible without highly-qualified and competent young specialists.

“There is a serious gap between educational level of graduates of electrical engineering universities and colleges and up-to-date requirements at the industry enterprises. Therefore, representatives of educational institutions need to focus on ensuring higher standards of power engineering education for future manpower needs”, said V. Shornikov. Following the discussion, the participants passed a resolution setting forth the key proposals to address the specific problems, with the view of maintaining the adequate competitiveness level of electrical engineering sector and electric power industry in general.
