OREANDA-NEWS. June 27, 2011. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private power utility, as part of educating and driving green initiatives organised an Environment Awareness Walk in Haldia township. The awareness walk is the first of its kind in Haldia, which aimed at promoting energy conservation awareness for sustainable business. The division took the lead in the township in sending the message to all — 'Act now, save environment, save our planet for a greener future.' 

About 50 members of the Tata Power family participated in the awareness walk, which included employees, spouses and children. All participants were carrying a message on the following themes viz, ‘save environment’, ‘save water’, ‘reduce carbon footprint’, ‘save trees’, etc.  The focus of this initiative was to emphasise the importance of the use of renewable sources of energy and optimisation of the use of non-renewable sources to reduce carbon footprint.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijayant Ranjan, station manager, Haldia plant, Tata Power, said, “The initiative was undertaken to reiterate the need for reducing carbon footprint and spread awareness on environment conservation. We are certain that such small steps will help in reduction of energy wastage, recycling and reuse of resources and encourage young professionals to work in the sphere of sustainability.”
