OREANDA-NEWS. June 23, 2011. Reiterating its commitment to light up lives of its communities, Tata Power’s Jojobera power plant employees once again enthusiastically volunteered to extend support to the Cheshire Home residents in Jamshedpur, but with a difference.

Cheshire Home is a mission in dedication to the cause of making a difference in the lives of the differently-abled and destitute. Over the years, volunteers from Tata Power at Jojobera have connected with this home and contributed to the upkeep of its inmates. This year there has been a laudable change in the nature of this contribution. Rather than depending on Tata Power funds, the employees of Jojobera power plant decided to collect funds on their own and channelise this to the inmates in the form of grocery, toys, etc.

Tata Power volunteers engaged with the Cheshire Home team to understand the requirements of the residents and put together the requisite funds and goods. In addition to extending financial help, Tata Power employees also provided clothes and other essential home utility and grocery items. The employees also spent quality time with the residents of Cheshire Home, engaging in fun-filled activities — games, music, dance, etc.

PL Manjrekar, head, Jojobera power plant, said, “It was an overwhelming experience to see that, despite physical challenges, the residents of Cheshire Home are leading an empowered and independent life, which was truly inspirational and motivating for each one of us. We are happy that we could contribute and bring smiles and joyous moments to these residents.”

It is hoped that the plant would continue building the social capital through other such ventures.
