OREANDA-NEWS. June 21, 2011. As part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a memorandum on strategic partnership was signed between Northern Capital Gateway (Pulkovo Airport Management Company) and Transaero Aviation Company.

The memorandum was signed by the CEO of Northern Capital Gateway Sergey Emdin and the CEO of Transaero Olga Pleshakova.

It was agreed to expand the geography of flights and increase the number of passenger and cargo flights by Transaero from Pulkovo Airport, including the transit traffic from Southeast Asia to Europe and North America.

The carrier’s target is to introduce at least two new air routes from St. Petersburg every year. In order to implement these plans, Transaero will increase the number of its aircraft based at Pulkovo Airport.

Northern Capital Gateway, on its part, will actively support Transaero – the key carrier at Pulkovo – and will contribute to Transaero’s efforts aimed at liberalization of the market of international air transportation from St. Petersburg.

Transaero will act as a key partner of Northern Capital Gateway in the process of construction and subsequent operation of Pulkovo Airport maintenance hangar for various aircraft, including wide-body planes.

A joint action to increase the transit passenger traffic via St. Petersburg, taken as part of development strategy to turn Pulkovo into the largest airport in the Baltic region, shall come as another important step in the partnership between Northern Capital Gateway and Transaero.

According to the CEO of NCG Sergey Emdin, “signing of the agreement is a significant moment in the history of the airport. Another step has been taken to turn Pulkovo into the largest transport and transit hub in the Baltic region. I am convinced that our partnership with Transaero will further expand both the geography of flights and the number of aircraft based.”

The CEO of Transaero Olga Pleshakova emphasized: "In the six years that have passed since the registration of our company in St. Petersburg, the traffic of Transaero from Pulkovo has increased nine-fold. I am convinced that the agreement will fully promote the role of Pulkovo Airport as Russia’s strategic transport hub. The consolidation of partnership between Transaero and Northern Capital Gateway will result in substantial development of a reliable and comfortable air service from the Northern Capital of our country, which will be accessible to different categories of passengers."
