OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2011. The first 840,000 Kva/500 Kva main transformer with Baosteel HiB has been connected to the grid and put into operation. The performance is in a good condition since operation. The success in application of Baosteel HiB on the national major project marks that Baosteel has broken through the situation that high-grade grain-oriented silicon steel for large transformer of China shall rely on long-term imports.     

Imported grain-oriented silicon steel is used for all the large transformers built early for the Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project. In November 2009, Baosteel HiB was approved through the expert review organized by the State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committe to be used for large transformer of 500 Kv and above for the Three Gorges Project. The first transformer made of domestic silicon steel for the underground power plant of Three Gorges Project is designed and manufactured by Baoding Tianwei, with 500 Kv voltage and 840,000 Kva capacity.      

In the last March, Baosteel has successfully supplied 1000t HiB under the efforts of silicon steel manufacturing, sales, research and development team. In the last August, the first transformer with domestic silicon steel sheet was manufactured in Baoding Tianwei for the Three Gorges Project. 24 items of technical performance were tested to be qualified. Thereof, transformer noise and no-load loss, etc. which are related to the important technical index of grain-oriented silicon steel are all better than the requirement of contract. This indicates that Baosteel HiB can replace the imported one to meet the requirement of Three Gorges Project.     

In the last August, the above mentioned first transformer was transported from Baoding Tianwei and arrived at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Terminal in last December. Then, it was transfered to Changjiang River waterway and arrived at the site of Three Gorges Project safely through more than 1000 kilometers. The transformer was put into operation on May 24, 2011 through 1 month installation and commissioning. Recently, news comes from the site of Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project that the large transformer with Baosteel HiB is under a good operation and the data meets the power requirements very well.
