Port of Ilyichevsk Volume Drops 14%
OREANDA-NEWS. June 14, 2011. Cargo throughput of Ukraine-based Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (SCPI) for 5 months of 2011 decreased by 14% compared with the same period last year, to 5.87 million tons, the state-run company reported.
In the reporting period, container traffic rose by 2.9% from a year earlier, to 113,000 TEUs, the report said.
In May, the port’s stevedores handled 21,200 TEUs, a 5.6-percent drop from the same period of 2010.
However, Ilyichevsk port boosted volumes of several types of cargo handled in May at the port’s terminals, including ore cargo, which soared by 179.4%, vehicles – a 66-percent jump, gas - by 18.8%, vegetable oil – by 5.6%, sulfur - by 2.2%.
State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ilyichevsk) ranks among 4 premier ports of Ukraine. The Port of Ilyichevsk encompasses 346 ha, 6km of waterfront with 29 berths. Its handling and warehouse facilities enable import/export freight flows of over 30 million tons a year. In 2010, cargo volume handled at Ilyichevsk port shrank by 7.5% year-over-year, to 15,55m tons.
