OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2011. The monetary reserves of the National Bank of Moldova in May 2011 reduced by USD 9 million or 0.5 percent, totaling USD 1,909.39 million by the end of the month. Such factors as reduction of the exchange rates of the currencies composing the monetary reserves against the US dollar - USD 31.16 million, payments to serve the foreign debt - USD 16.69 million, other foreign payments - USD 2.72 million resulted in the reduction of the monetary reserves in May.

At the same time, monetary reserves increased in May owing to such factors as: receipt by the Finance Ministry of Moldova of a grant from the European Commission in the amount of USD 19.39 million, interventions in the foreign exchange market such as currency purchase in the amount of USD 14.06 million, revaluation of securities from the investment portfolio - USD 3.31 million, profit from monetary reserves management - USD 2.27 million, net payments belonging to the obligatory reserves of licensed banks in foreign currency - USD 1.59 million, other receipts - USD 0.95 million.

It should be noted that the National Bank of Moldova’s monetary reserves in April 2011 increased by USD 124.95 million or 7%, totaling USD 1,918.39 million by the end of the month, being the absolute record.
