Russian Railways Ships 106,2 mn Tons in May 2011
OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2011. According to the latest figures, shipping volumes on the Russian Railways’ network in May 2011 amounted to 106.2 million tons, exceeding the volume for the same period last year by 3%.
Cargo turnover in May 2011 increased by 4% over the same period last year to 180.4 billion tariff ton-km, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
According to the latest figures, loading in January-May 2011 rose to 504.2 million tons, up 4.3% compared to the same period in 2010.
The following categories of freight were shipped:
coal – 123.2 million tons (+1.1% compared to January-May 2010),
coke – 5.5 million tons (+2.5%),
oil and oil products – 105.1 million tons (+0.4%),
iron and manganese ores – 45.1 million tons (+9.3%),
ferrous metals – 31.4 million tons (+4.7%),
scrap ferrous metals – 7.4 million tons (+1%),
chemical and mineral fertilisers – 20.1 million tons (+3.5%),
cement – 12.2 million tons (+10.5%),
timber – 17.9 million tons (-3.8%),
grain and ground products – 6.4 million tons (-14.8%),
construction materials – 58.3 million tons (+23%),
non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 10.2 million tons (-1.4%),
chemicals and soda – 12.4 million tons (+3.3%),
industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 12 million tons (-10.6%),
containerised cargo – 8.1 million tons (+15.7%).
Cargo turnover in the first 5 months of 2011 totaled 870.5 billion tariff ton-km (+6.9%).
