OREANDA-NEWS. June 06, 2011. TEO LT, AB, the largest provider of integrated telecommunication, IT and television services in Lithuania, and the Local Organizing Committee of EuroBasket 2011 signed an agreement for provision of Internet access, computer network installation, and computer and office equipment rental services.

TEO will install duplicated fiber-optic Internet access in the basketball arenas in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Shiauliai, Panevezhys and Alytus. In the arenas, there will be installed internal computer networks, connecting the workplaces of journalists who will sit close to the playground and the computers of the Championship organizers. There will be equipped more than 3 thousand workplaces for the Championship organizers and journalists. The total length of installed computer networks will be approximately 200 kilometers. Journalists and the organizers will also have access to wireless Internet in all arenas.

The value of the agreement for provision of services and equipment rental for the Championship, which is to begin in late August, is more than LTL 3.7 million.

"We are very pleased that a reliable company such as TEO has joined the group of our partners, - Mindaugas Shpokas, head of the EuroBasket 2011 Local Organising Committee, said after signing the contract. - EuroBasket 2011 is a big international event, which requires from the host country not only significant human resources and investment, but also the most advanced technologies and companies capable of deploying and maintaining them. We are certain of the skills and abilities of TEO and I am sure that everyone will become certain of that during the Championship".

According to Aleksandras Samuchovas, Director of Business Solutions Department of TEO, it is not for the first time that TEO is providing Internet access and computer workstations for the events attracting thousands of participants. "Last September, TEO services were used by the participants of  the Global Internet Governance Forum held in Vilnius, and some time before - by the organizers of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Defence Ministers' meeting, and other international events", - A. Samuchovas said.
During the Championship, the organizers and journalists will be provided more than 200 laptops, they will have access to approximately 150 printers, as well as telephones and fax machines. For the convenience of spectators and the organizers, in the arenas there will be installed more than 130 TVs, which will be showing live broadcasts of the games taking place at the moment.

In order to avoid problems due to possible disruptions of electricity supply, in the arenas TEO will install a backup system, consisting of extremely powerful batteries and diesel generators.

After having won the public tender announced by the EuroBasket 2011 Local Organizing Committee, for implementation of the project TEO enlisted the help of the company Elsis IT, which will work on the installation of computer networks. During the project, computers and office equipment will be provided by REO Investment.
