OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2011. Belarus’ foreign commodity trade deficit amounted to USD 3.751 billion in January-April 2011, compared to a USD 2.024 billion deficit in January-April 2010, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Exports rose 54.7% in January-April 2011 year-on-year to USD 11.253 billion, and imports increased 61.4% to USD 15.005 billion.

Exports from Belarus included USD 5.458 billion worth of supplies to CIS states, up 43.7% on the year, including exports to Russia, which stood at USD 3.976 billion, up 39.1% and to Kazakhstan at USD 172 million, up 26.7%.

Exports to non-CIS countries amounted to USD 5.795 billion as of May 1, 2011, up 66.7% on the year.

Belarusian imports from CIS countries rose 50.6% to USD 8.703 billion, including imports from Russia at USD 7.526 billion, up 44.3% on the year, and from Kazakhstan at USD 67.1 million, up 240%.

Imports from non-CIS countries went up 80% on the year to USD 6.302 billion.

The deficit of commodity trade with CIS countries came to USD 3.245 billion, up 60% on the year in January-April. The deficit of commodity trade with Russia expanded 50.6% year-on-year in January-April 2011 to USD 3.549 billion. In trade with Kazakhstan, Belarus showed a USD 104.9 million surplus, down 9.6%.

The deficit of foreign trade with countries outside the CIS reached USD 506.4 million in January-April 2011, up 12 times from January-April 2010.

The CIS accounted for 53.9% of Belarus’ trade turnover in January-April 2011, Russia accounted for 43.8%, while non-CIS foreign states are responsible for 46.1%.
