OREANDA-NEWS. May 30, 2011. Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Belarus Kang Weon Sik.

At the meeting the sides discussed prospects of future development of trade and economic, scientific and technical, and investment cooperation between Belarus and Korea, matters concerning the expansion of the legal base of the bilateral relations.

In 2010 Belarus’ export to Korea totaled USD 25.1 million, more than 230% up on 2009. Import from Korea rose by 17.4% to USD 139.2 million.

Belarus’ major exports to Korea are high technology and science-intensive products such as microchips, semiconductors, polyamides, fiber glass, carbon materials, optical and measuring devices, laser instruments, and medical instruments. Deliveries of potash fertilizers were resumed in 2010.

Belarus’ major imports from Korea (around 200 commodity items) are primarily high-tech products: cars, components used by electronic and electromechanical industries, including electronic tubes and liquid crystal panels, raw materials for chemical and light industries, synthetic and artificial fabrics, x-raying and medical equipment, household appliances, computers and telecommunication equipment and components.

A joint committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea has been set up in line with the Belarusian-Korean intergovernmental agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

Cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry has been established. Mutual visits of delegations of business circles were arranged by the chambers in 2006-2010.

Representative offices of LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, TM-Korea (purchasing of bimetals and goods made of them), Delta Medical (steam sterilizers and other medical instruments) are open in Belarus.
