OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2011. Capt. Wei Jiafu, President and CEO of COSCO Group, met with the visiting delegation headed by Governor of Virginia Robert F. McDonnell, reported the press-centre of COSCO.

Capt. Wei warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced COSCO's developments in the US market. He also highlighted COSCO's 20-year fruitful partnership with the Virginia Port Authority. Captain Wei said that since 1979 COSCO has been performing as good corporate citizen in the US and has contributed greatly to the boom of US port economy and the growth of port-related jobs. By being a carrier  that strictly follows the maritime rules and regulation, COSCO  has been given many honors and awards by US government, labor unions and port authorities. Capt. Wei also expressed his hope to further advance the mutually beneficial collaboration with the state and port of Virginia.

Governor McDonnell congratulated on COSCO's 50th anniversary, and highly acknowledged COSCO's contribution to the economic and social developments of the State of Virginia. He emphasized that the State of Virginia sees the importance of trade with China and values the role of transportation service to the growth of trade and local economy. Jerry Bridges, the Executive Director of Virginia Port Authority expressed the expectation from of the Norfolk port to provide more services to ship lines that are serving between Asia and US East Coast.

The meeting was also attended by James S. Cheng, State Secretary of Commerce and Trade, Thomas D. Capozzi, Vice President of Virginia International Terminals Inc., Dr. Sun Jiakang, Vice President of COSCO Group, and other senior Executives from COSCO's Executive Division, Transport Division and Strategic & Development Division.
