OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2011. FSUE “Rosmorport” acquired two passenger catamarans to organize passenger transportation line along the Black Sea shore, reported the press-centre of Rosmorport.

Both vessels arrived to the seaport of Sochi from Southampton, UK. Necessary certification work and other formalities are executed now. The formation of the ships’ crews have been started also.

According to the FSUE “Rosmorport” deputy General director Alexander Alyoshkin, revival of passenger line along the Black Sea shore is the main goal of the project and an important step on the way to the creation of the city modern transport infrastructure before Olympic games 2014.

Sochi-1 and Sochi-2 catamarans will be on the daily route connecting 8 stations mentioned in the program of Olympic objects construction and development of Sochi as mountain and climate resort (Imeretinka, Adler, Matsesta, Kurgorodok, Lazarevskoe, Loo, Dagomys, Hosta). Three stations are to be commissioned this season, five others — in 2012.

The opening of the passenger line along the Black sea shore is planned for the beginning of June — says the FSUE “Rosmorport” Sochi branch director Vasily Bogoslovsky, — water passenger transport is a great option as compared with land lines — roads and railways, especially considering heavy traffic in the city. Besides, Rosmorport takes all measures to make the ticket price as much affordable as possible, and we hope that will increase the number of tourists in the Russian Black Sea resorts.

Each catamaran is 40 m long and 10 m wide, able to hold 300 passengers and has maximum speed of 32 knots (about 60 km/h).
