Moldova Holds 2 Place in World on Remittances Share in GDP Structure
OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2011. Moldova holds 2 place in the world on remittances share in the structure of gross domestic product of the country, - the World bank. The economist of the World Bank in Moldova Dino Merotto has said it during presentation of recommendations contained in the Economic memorandum for the country, prepared by experts the WB.
As Dino Merotto noted, remittances of Moldavian migrant workers make about 30 % of gross domestic product of Moldova, however these means finance internal consumption and real estate building, and do not influence national economy growth. According to the WB research, the next 5 years growth of monetary receipts from the citizens of Moldova working abroad will proceed, however there are preconditions to that the rates of increase of transfers registered during the pre-crisis period, will not be reached.
It is noted that 40 % of the efficient population of the country have already left the country, accordingly, the migratory potential of Moldova was essentially reduced, thus, the share of able-bodied population in the country is simultaneously reduced. As Dino Merotto has noted , labour migration and misuse of means of migrant workers stimulates development of serious social and economic problems in the country.
Experts of the World Bank recommend to the government of Moldova to promote reorientation of remittances of the Moldavian migrant workers - from consumption in the investment, in particular, in financial sector.
