OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2011. Izhora plants included in OMZ Group have shipped f vessel of the VVER-1200 nuclear reactor for Novovoronezh NPP-2. This is the first nuclear reactor vessel, produced in Russia for a Russian nuclear plant for the last 20 years.

Novovoronezh NPP was put into operation in 1964 and became the first plant with a reactor unit of VVER type, the construction of which is considered one of the safest in the world. Each of the operating reactors at Novovoronezh NPP is the parental archetype of the series power reactors of water-cooled type: VVER-440 and VVER-1000, produced at Izhora plants.

The contract for production and supply of the power equipment for Novovoronezh NPP-2 was signed in 2007. This contract provides production of two packages of the VVER-1200 reactor unit principal equipment, in particular, the reactor vessels, the steam generators vessels and in-vessel equipment of over 3,500 tones total weight. Commissioning of the first power unit of NPP-2 is to be performed in 2012.

The VVER-1200 reactor unit for NVNPP-2 is the parent plant of NPP-2006 project and belongs to the most up-to-date generation III+. The project contains a number of functional improvements providing the increased safety level that meets the strictest international requirements, improving technical and economic values and increasing the power unit service life up to 60 years.
