OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2011. Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin is on a working visit to the United States of America. He had a meeting with Robert VanderClute, Senior Vice President for Safety and Operations of the Association of American Railroads, and Robert Reum, President of Amsted Industries, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

At the meeting with Yakunin’s U.S. counterparts, the parties summed up the results of bilateral cooperation, in particular the introduction of wagons and bogies for freight cars on Russian railways which have been developed by American experts and which will significantly reduce the operating costs of rolling stock and railway track.

In addition, agreement was reached to start cooperation between Russian experts and America’s Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads.

The President of Russian Railways also held a working meeting with Jean-Pierre Lubin, President of the International Rail Union (UIC) and participated in several events organised by the UIC.

Yakunin drew the meeting’s attention to fact that the Declaration on Sustainable Mobility and Transport which has been adopted and signed by the UIC’s members supports the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, which should become priorities for railway companies.

These are international standards in the transport business which require a high level of service and service quality, the efficient organisation of transport service and efficient management.
