OREANDA-NEWS. May 17, 2011. Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia signed a cooperation plan for 2011-2012 at the session of the Belarusian-Russian council for long-term cooperation of Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia with the oblasts, ministries and administration bodies of Belarus. The session took place in Zelenogradsk. The document was signed by Vice Primier of Belarus Sergei Rumas and Governor of Kaliningrad Oblast Nikolai Tsukanov.

“At the session we discussed a number of issues connected with cooperation in various fields, including an opportunity to build a vegetable store house for Belarusian suppliers in the region. We are ready to offer good conditions and a piece of land to Belarusian investors,” Nikolai Tsukanov said.

When commenting the initiative of Nikolai Tsukanov to join effort to promote the construction a high-speed railway between Kaliningrad and Moscow via Belarus, Sergei Rumas said that he is in favor of this project. “The high-speed railway is relevant not only for Kalinigrad, but for Belarus as well,” he noted.

According to Sergei Rumas, it is necessary to invigorate work in line with the existing agreement to transfer Belarusian potash fertilizers via Kaliningrad ports. Moreover, Belarus will consider an opportunity to produce oilseed meal from its soy in Kaliningrad Oblast.

The next session of the council is expected to take place in Grodno in Q4 2012.
