Lukashenko Soothes Jitters over Foreign Currency Situation
OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2011. The situation on the foreign currency market of Belarus will be resolved in 1-2 months, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko vowed as he visited the Belarusian company Alexandriyskoye in Shklov District on 12 May.
“Yes, it is a bit difficult today. But we’ll get over it. We will calmly forget all the foreign currency troubles in 1-2 months,” said the head of state.
In his words, Belarus will follow its own way from now on. “We’ve been seeing more and more ideas lately that claim that we need reforms. We are getting subtly pushed towards some kind of reforms. They cry, especially those from the fifth column, that reforms must be implemented right away. But what kind of a reform is necessary? What reforms do they suggest? They suggest a reform that aims for destruction,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
The Belarusian head of state also underlined: “We need the following kind of a reform: companies should work, making products, which enjoy demand in any part of the planet. Then you should sell what you owe to the state and can use the rest to import anything you like. And then we will have no problems with foreign exchange. This is the kind of a reform we need”. Alexander Lukashenko warned it will be a difficult and long way. “But it is our way. There is no other way,” he added.
