OREANDA-NEWS. May 10, 2011. OJSC Power Machines have completed shipping hydroelectric generating equipment for the second hydro unit at JSC RusHydro’s Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP (SSHPP).

In the meantime Power Machines continue shipment of finished components for the third generator, with shipment of equipment for the second hydro turbine being completed at the moment.

Power Machines and RusHydro entered into a contract to produce main power generation equipment, needed for the SSHPP overhaul, in November 2009. Under the contract Power Machines are to output ten hydro turbines and nine hydro generators, 640 MW each, as well as six excitation systems. Power Machines’ engineers are also to provide installation services including supervision and commissioning of the supplied equipment. The contract is valued at 11.7 billion rubles (excluding VAT). In all, Power Machines will supply hydro power equipment to five hydro units at the plant under the overhaul this year.

As a result, the service life of the new hydro units will become 40 years longer, and the maximum efficiency of a hydro turbine will be 96.6%. Its output and cavitation performance will be improved. The turbines will also be equipped with advanced process safeguards effecting automatic shutdown of a unit in the event of unacceptable deviations in parameters monitored.

Power Machines have already manufactured and supplied excitation equipment packages to renovate SSHPP hydro units No. 6, No. 5, and No. 4 that best survived the accident, as well as a new hydro generator and excitation equipment package to replace the damaged generator of hydro unit No. 3 which was hooked up for the operational testing on 22 December 2010. Hydro units No. 6 and No. 5 were overhauled and placed into operation ahead the schedule completion date – in February and March 2010. Hydro units No. 4 and No. 3 were launched in August and in December 2010 according to the SSHPP overhaul schedule approved by the Russian Ministry of Energy.
