OREANDA-NEWS. May 10, 2011. The volume of remittances to Moldova from natural persons from abroad through commercial banks in the first quarter of 2011 totaled USD 277.35 million. It increased by USD 44.04 million (18.9%) in comparison with the same period last year. particularly, the volume of money transfers in March 2011 totaled USD 116.38 million, up USD 18.73 million (19.2%) against March last year (USD 97.65 million), according to the National Bank of Moldova.

USD 236.63 million (85.3% of the total amount of money transfers in January-March 2011) were received by means of different quick money transfer systems against USD 193.63 million in the same period last year.

48% of the currency remittances in the first quarter of 2011 accounted for USD, 41.1% - euro, 10.9% - Russian rubles. As it was reported earlier, the volume of remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through commercial banks in 2010 totaled USD 1,244.14 million, USD 62.12 million (5.3%) more than in 2009.

About USD 1 billion 72.24 million (86.2% of the total volume of remittances in that period of time) were received through different quick remittances systems.
