OREANDA-NEWS. May 06, 2011. A press conference devoted to the current state and further development of the national domain zone UZ was held in Tashkent. This was the day the UZ top-level domain was created in 1995.

Since March 2003, the national domain zone is administered by UZINFOCOM, computerization and information technologies development center.

The growth of the UZ domain zone reflects the general development of the ICT sector in Uzbekistan, first deputy director general of the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information Khurshid Mirzokhidov said.

There are currently about 12,000 active domains in the UZ top-level domain. The work of seven registrars offering domain registration services help ensure the price (starts at USD 15 per year) is affordable for the general population.

As of the end of March, the number of internet users in Uzbekistan comprised 7.55 million. The number of internet service providers and operators is over 900. There are about 970 collective internet access points in the country.
