OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2011. The cotton sowing campaign completed in Turkmenistan. Turkmen farmers, who had efficiently used each spring day and hour, completed the important agricultural campaign.

550,000 hectares have sown with cotton this year. As in the previous years, cotton growers conducted the campaign in compliance with soil and climatic conditions of each region. Yoloten-7 middle stapled cotton variety was sown in Ahal, Lebap and Mary Velayats, 133 cotton variety was sown in all velayats except for Dashoguz, where cotton growers sowed 149F, C-4727, Dashoguz-120 and Serdar middle stapled cotton varieties. C-2606 middle stapled cotton variety along with the other cotton varieties were sown in Lebap and Balkan Velayats. 9871-E, Yoloten-14 and Yoloten-32 fine stapled cotton varieties were sown in Ahal and Mary Velayats.

As is known, rich harvests of ‘white gold’ depend on the success of the sowing campaign. This year, cotton growers throughout the country conducted ploughing and planning activities according to schedule, irrigated fields and stored 66,000 tons of high-quality seeds. High-powered tractors manufactured by such well-known companies as John Deere and Case and MTZ-80X, MTZ-82.2 and Belarus-1221 tractors were engaged in the important agricultural campaign. According to the Turkmenobahyzmat Association, over 2,200 seeding machines, 35,000 spike-tooth harrows, over 5,000 cultivators and other agricultural machines and equipment were engaged in land reclamation and sowing activities.

The first sprouts have appeared on the most of cotton fields. Currently, machine operators are engaged in inter-row cultivation. After that cotton growers will thin out sprouts and weed cotton fields. It should be noted that the work on sterilization of seeds to protect them from cotton diseases contributed to shortening the sprouting period.

By cultivating this valuable technical culture, Turkmen cotton growers make a contribution to implementing the large-scale reforms launched on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the agro-industrial sector to improve the welfare and standards of living of Turkmen citizens.
