RTS Released Stock Market Weekly Trading Results: April 25-29, 2011

OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2011. Over the week of April 25-29, 2011, the RTS Index went down by 1.08% to reach 2,026.94 points (2,049.03 points as of April 22, 2011). Most of the negative impact on the RTS Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for ordinary shares of Sberbank (SBERS) (down 4.38 points) followed by JSC "NOVATEK" (NVTKS) (down 4.10 points) and JSC VTB Bank (VTBRS) (down 3.62 points).

The RTS Standard Index, the blue chips index, lost 3.15% to reach 11,893.20 points (12,279.85 points as of April 22, 2011). The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 experienced a decrease of 0.45% closing at 2,317.07 points (2,327.56 points as of April 22, 2011).

Last week’s drop on the stock market was accompanied by an increase of volatility levels when the Russian Volatility Index RTSVX went up by 4.59% to reach 24.27 points (23.20 points as of April 22, 2011).

Last week most of the key economy sectors represented on the Russian stock market demonstrated a negative trend. The largest downturn was reported by the power sector, with the RTS Electric Utilities Index decreasing by 1.94%. A significant decrease was also shown by the oil & gas and finance sectors, with the RTS Oil & Gas Index and RTS Finances Index going down by 1.26% and 1.02% respectively. Nonetheless the consumer and metallurgy sectors showed a slight upturn, with the RTS Consumer & Retail Index and RTS Metals & Mining Index growing by 0.62% and 0.33% respectively.

The regional index, RTS Siberia Index, lost 1.41%.

Last week the US dollar depreciated by 1.58% against the ruble to reach 27.50 rubles per US dollar (27.94 rubles as of April 22, 2011).

The total securities trading volume on RTS for the week of April 25-29, 2011 equaled USD10.63 billion (295.67 billion rubles*), including all types of trades. The trading volume on RTS Standard totaled USD2,402.48 million.

The week's top sellers were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with a turnover of USD1,060.67 million followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with a turnover of USD643.40 million and ordinary shares of OAO "LUKOIL" (LKOH) with a turnover of USD294.87 million. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 43.73%, 26.53% and 12.16% respectively.

The week's top gainers were ordinary shares of OJSC "Polyus Gold"  (PLZL) that went up by 16.28% to USD68.73 followed by ordinary shares of Opened Joint-Stock Company "Company "M.video" (MVID) – by 9.29% to USD10.00 and OAO "PROTEK" (PRTK) – by 9.15% to reach USD1.55.

The week's top losers were ordinary shares of "IDGC of Center and Volga Region, JSC" (MRKP) that fell 12.31% to reach USD0.00855 followed by Samaraenergo (SAGO) that lost 9.82% to reach USD0.018 and RDR of Sberbank representing rights on ordinary registered shares of United Company RUSAL Plc (RUAL) that shed 5.52% to reach USD15.4.
