OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2011. Recently, Baosteel "steel products classification rules" (PCR file) passed the international authority, UK Intertek's verification. Meanwhile, the environmental statements (EPD) of five types of carbon steel products: hot-rolled, cold rolled, electric galvanized, hot dip galvanized, electrolytic tin plate are also recognized by Intertek. Recently, Baosteel will be duly authorized to use the green leaf label by its the German branch. Thus, Baosteel becomes the first batch of domestic enterprises which publish steel products PCR paper and product environmental statement and win third-party certification, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

PCR file sets the rules on product environmental statement, which is the basis of product environmental statement. PCR covers product features, product technical performance, material and chemical substance lists, system boundaries, choice rules, distribution principles, calculation rules, data quality requirements and EPD parameters. PCR and EPD give the public a verifiable, quantitative steel products environmental performance data and provide objective data for environmental performance comparison within the same industry and products or among different industries and different products.

To make PCR file pass verification, Baosteel does a lot of preparatory work, carries out product life cycle assessment for years, cares for the environment safety and sketches outline of environmentally friendly products. While there is no domestic literature reference, Baosteel, in accordance with the tradition of keeping up with international standards, does technical research, makes discoveries and accumulates. With the joint efforts of Baosteel Co.,Ltd. Manufacturing and Management Department, Research Institute and Technology Development Department, PCR file and EPD environmental statement were successfully complied.

Baosteel PCR file and environmental statement's passing international authority's review represents that China's steel industry has made significant progress in the product environmental performance information disclosure and that environmental performance information disclosure rules have become more clear, the process more transparent and the information more open.
