Ukraine to Clean Up Its Territory from Hazardous Waste
OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2011. Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine has presented the plan according to clean up the territory of Ukraine from hazardous waste within the framework of the International Forum "Environment for Ukraine".
"The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine has defined a system of waste management as one of the priorities", - Deputy Minister Ivan Makarenko said.
Currently the first stage of this project is finished within the framework of which has been completed analysis of existing situation in the field of waste management and made recommendations on the best ways to improve it, the estimation of financial, logistical and human resources needed to implement the program also has done.
As technologies that meet European standards for disposal of hazardous waste, including unusable pesticides in Ukraine does not exist, the only way to resolve this vital issue in modern terms is the export of unusable pesticides from Ukraine for their safe disposal at specialized enterprises.
"The strategy of the Ministry is not in dotted eliminate obsolete pesticides and chemicals but in the comprehensive cleaning of regions of Ukraine", - Ivan Makarenko said. Thus, in 2010 it was completely cleared from unusable pesticides 4 regions of Ukraine (Volyn, Ternopil, Chernivtsi region and Sevastopol city).
It is necessary to build the proper hi-tech plant in Ukraine with rotary kilns-assisted for processing and disposal of hazardous waste to solve the final touches of this issues. The plant will be built at a rate of international standards that guarantee the safe disposal of hazardous waste and eliminate the negative impact on the environment.
