OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2011. The Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Karelia and Federal Highway Agency of Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation (State Roads Agency) was signed on April 20 in Moscow. The Agreement was signed by Yuri Kancher, First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia, and Innokenty Alafinov, acting Director of the State Roads Agency.

The Agreement is focused on performance of the task concerning increase of reliability and durability of highways and artificial constructions due to perfection of road technologies, as well as implementation of new constructions and materials within the scope of the Motorroads sub-program of Development of the Transport System of Russia in 2010 - 2015 federal target program.

New technologies will be tested on roads of the republic for further application all over the territory of Russia. The first object where they will be used is a highway from Pitkaranta to Suojarvi. This summer Karelia will be a venue for the exit meeting at participation of heads the State Roads Agency who will be able to assess quality of the first repaired sites on the spot. Thus, Yuri Kancher has noted, Karelia will become the all-Russian testing area for the newest technologies in road reparation and construction.

Besides, during the meeting with the management of the State Roads Agency prospects of using new road technologies in construction and reconstruction of bridges were discussed. Now the republic prepares the Bridges of Karelia program which should be approved at the federal level to win co-financing.
