OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2011. Confronting the enormous pressure on requesting energy saving and emission reduction to mitigate climate change, China Steel Corporation (CSC) established CSC Group Committee of Energy and Environment to plan, coordinate, promote and audit energy and environmental affairs of the group. Tsou, Jo-Chi, the CEO of CSC assumed the chairman, reported the press-centre of China Steel.

There are four sub-committees and Chang, Shi-Long, the assistant vice president of the newly set up Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs as the executive sectary. The major function of the committee is to promote green steels with low carbon energy, energy conservation with pollutants reduction, regulation compliance with risk control and green investment.
Considering the international trend in energy and environment, chairman Tsou confirms that the organization of CSC Group has to adjust and infuse innovative concepts and ideas as to keep leading position in the global steel industry, therefore, he instructed to set up the committee.

The functions of existing Energy Saving Committee and related task forces will face some modifications to enhance the performance and through integration that CSC Group could adapt efficiently and flexibly as to pursuing sustainability.

In the opening of the initial meeting, chairman Tsou mentioned that although CSC had put a lot of effort in energy saving and environmental protection with some achievements, he would rather expect the committee could integrate the resource in CSC Group to maximize the synergy to conquer all the difficulties to speed up the applications of the best available technology (BAT) and the renewable energy, so that CSC can soon finalize the two lows and one high vision (low carbon, low pollutants and high value) and unfolding the commitment and perseverance of CSC Group in fulfilling its social responsibility.

In the establishment meeting, CSC also reveals its strategies and roadmaps in energy and environmental policies including complying with regulations, increasing energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy, expanding district energy and resource integration, developing green steel and promoting green life, etc. With these action plans, CSC can reduce its greenhouse gas intensity to 10% and attain its sustainability for reaching the benchmark of the advanced steel corporations in the world.
