Cycling Federation of Russia Held Meeting in ITERA Central Office
OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2011. The meeting was attended by 15 members of the Board of Trustees of the CFR, including, Sergey Chemezov, Chairman of the Board, Director General of the Russian Technologies State Corporation, and Igor Makarov, President of the CFR, Chairman of the ITERA Group Board of Directors, reported the press-centre of ITERA.
Sergey Chemezov on behalf of the Board members congratulated Igor Makarov with his election to the Steering Committee of the International Cycling Union (UCI). "This victory will provide an opportunity to the Cycling Federation of Russia to participate in taking many decisions in the world cycling, thus, affecting the development of cycling in our country", - said the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cycling Federation.
The CFR management report in respect of the work performed in 2010 primarily describes new approaches towards training athletes, which have not been used in the Russian cycling. They include reorganization of professional road and track teams and all-Russian centers, and attracting foreign professionals. Currently, the approaches have been implemented in establishing of three teams within all-Russian project "Katyusha", a professional track team “Rusvelo”, athletes training center "Rus", and in invitation of German coach Heiko Salzwedel to work with the Russian national track team.
Also, the CFR intends to establish regional athletes training centers while implementing the program of providing material and technical support to sports schools under municipal jurisdiction, which would allow the cyclist training system to be built from the first steps in the sports to the Olympic heights.
According to Igor Makarov, President of the Cycling Federation of Russia, "Even today, the CFR has established a "package of intentions" to develop consistent long-term and short-term planning programs. The main areas of our consistent work are improving material and technical bases of sports schools, developing the Paralympic movement, providing support to cycling veterans, and in short-term planning, preparation to the Olympic Games in London."
After the meeting, Sergey Churakov, the Director of Tula sports school, was awarded on behalf of the Board of Trustees a certificate to receive bicycles for his school trainees.
About the CFR: The Cycling Federation of Russia (CFR) was established in 1990. It unites sports organizations of 51 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. CFR was acknowledged by the Olympic Committee of Russia, by the Federal Agency for Physical Fitness and Sports, Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), Union Europeenne de Cyclisme (UEC) as a sole organization with exclusive authority to manage development of cycling in the country, to hold national and international competitions related to cycling at the territory of the Russian Federation, to represent this sport in constituent entities of international sports relations: contacts with UCI, national unions and federations of cyclists in other countries, as well as with overseas, Russian and international associations. The CFR’s main activity areas include preparation of the national Teams of Russia for major competitions during a year and for Olympic Games, development and popularization of cycling in the country.
