Freight Traffic Increases 62% in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2011. Rail transport accounted for the biggest volume of cargo transportation in the I quarter of 2011 – 1.2 million tones (64.7% more than in the same period last year), according to the Office for National Statistics.
Motor transport carried 0.81 million tones (58.1% more than in January-March 2010). The largest share in the total volume of freight loaded at the railway stations in this period belonged to crops and floury production – 59.8%, ferrous metals and scrap metal – 11.3%, building materials and cement – 5.8%.
Cargo transportation by the river transport in January-March 2011 increased by 79.7% totaling 11.5 thousand tones. Air transport’s freight traffic totaled 0.3 thousand tones, up 22.9%.
