OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2011. The Government consistently works to improve performance and increase productivity in agriculture. This was stressed by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov at a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Thomas Mirow.

Mykola Azarov said that the Government considers producing 60 million tons of grain per year guideline for Ukraine in the coming years.

The Head of Government noted that Ukraine has already increased planting area to 500 hectares compared with last year, and has raised crops of grain and forage crops by reducing the technical to 1 million hectares. And such a practice he said would continue in the future.

Mykola Azarov noted that today in Ukraine, there are about seven million hectares of fields that are not occupied by crops, but this areas will be developed in the coming years.

In turn, EBRD President Thomas Mirow confirmed the willingness of the bank to invest in increasing grain yield and efficiency of agricultural production in Ukraine.
