OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2011. Sakhalin Energy became one of the winners of Russia’s contest “Best Russian companies. Dynamics, efficiency, responsibility” held by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE). Sakhalin Energy social activity got diploma of Russian Union in nomination “Social projects and investment”, reported the press-centre of Sakhalin Energy.

The award was presented to the company by the head of RUIE Alexander Shokhin on 19 April at the Russian Business Week in Moscow.

This annual contest rates the best companies and supports economic and sustainable development of business in Russia.

Sakhalin Energy wins the contest for the second time: in 2010 RUIE listed Sakhalin Energy as the top in social activity. The company supports health and education on the island and contributes to the development of indigenous people of Sakhalin. In addition to large scale partnership projects Sakhalin Energy also actively supports small local initiatives and employees’ volunteering activity.

The company’s sustainable development performance is highly respected by international and Russian professional organisations and institutes. By joining the UN Global Compact Sakhalin Energy has became one of its most active participants. Sakhalin Energy is the first and the only Russian company chosen by the United Nations to join the new platform for Corporate Sustainability Leadership – UN Global Compact LEAD. Election of Sakhalin Energy’s CEO as a Chairman of the collegiate steering authority of UNGC Network Russia is yet another testament to recognition of the continuing efforts the company exerts in the area of sustainable development.
